Hi.

Welcome to my blog. Much like the rest of my life, it's still a work in progress, but you're very welcome to take a look around. I hope you like what you see and read. And if you don't... That's why the comments are disabled.

July favourites!

July favourites!

I thought I'd actually make this post in July, as that would make sense. But then I forgot Monday was August first.

Oakleaf Bakery's raspberry lemonade
I walk past this little Boston bakery pretty much daily on my way to and from my girlfriend's apartment, and am a fan of sugar, so gave Oakleaf's raspberry lemonade a go on one of our recent 90+ degree days. They squeeze the lemons in store right in front of you. They also always have insane wedding cakes in the shop window, and a glass wall between the counter and the bakery in the back, so you can see all the baking action.

Last Shadow Puppets
It was more by luck than judgement that I started listening to the Arctic Monkeys frontman's side project, and I wasn't even a huge fan right away. However, a few listening sessions later, and I'm hooked. The enormous strings layered under full guitar sounds is utterly unique to my ears, and so incredibly beautiful. I've since learned they're busy taking the UK by storm this summer, playing at Glastonbury no less. I went to see them play last night in part of the best day ever (post to come on that), and they were AMAZING. Since their set finished I've been tiding myself over with this awesome playlist.

Miles Kane (L) and Alex Turner (R) during "The Age of the Understatement", my personal favourite song.

Banana bread
I had a couple of bananas laying around, and a day on my hands, so I decided to try Bon Appetit's recipe for banana bread. Except I'm an anarchist, so I doubled the amount of chocolate chips it called for. Turns out banana-y chocolate loaf (as it actually turned out being) was the best thing on this earth. I'm going to do a recipe post soon too!

Boston Public Library
If you missed my previous piece on the new BPL wing in Copley Square opening, it's pretty dope. And even better, Lia and I learned that the BPL offers free tickets to some of the city's other institutions, such as the Museum of Science. We popped by the South End branch to ask, and sure enough, we scored two tickets to the MoS.

While we were there I took this picture, because all the signs said this would be a funny thing to do. It wasn't that funny.

Fansided
Shameless plug. I'm writing for them now, and you can read my first piece here

Stranger Things
Netflix keeps killing it with their own releases. Lia and I finally finished The Wire, so we were in search of a new show to watch to keep our relationship together. The beautifully 80's series is shot better than most movies I've seen recently, and one ginger character in particular has gained somewhat of a cult fan following

Michelle Obama
As if she wasn't cool enough for appearing on Carpool Karaoke, Michelle Obama gave a rather cathartic speech on the first night of the Democratic National Convention - in stark contrast to the bile-filled shitstorm that was the entirety of the Republican National Convention/Donald Trump's public masturbation festival. It was stunningly well written, and well worth fifteen minutes to watch fully. It'll probably be talked about for years to come. Might as well watch it now.
